Where have I been?

It has been a while since I’ve updated my blog. I’m teaching as Adjunct Faculty in Graduate Programs in Software at the University of St. Thomas, in St. Paul, MN. (See my Studies tab.)

Adjunct Faculty at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN

SEIS 701-01 Bioinformatics: This course introduces students to Bioinformatics through the presentation of current algorithms, databases, and tools used in computational molecular biology and the critique of current literature in the field. The following topics will be discussed: introduction to molecular biology, genomics, genetics and privacy issues, genome maps, sequencing alignment, assembly, and analysis, gene finding techniques, annotated databases such as NCBI:Genbank and Swiss-Prot, Perl-based tools for data manipulation, and genome-scale bioinformatics software tools. (Fall 2010)

There’s is as much to learn as to be taught. It will be a challenge to make it through the semester without business travel getting in the way. I’m enjoying the experience, we’ve just completed our 4th class. This next week we’re discussing NCBI and Swiss-Prot resources. By the end of the month my students will present their mid-term critiques. Then we move into tools and programming.

I’m using Dropbox as the sync platform for sharing articles and documents in the class and Mendeley as a citation manager.
